OCMA-500 Horiba

The OCMA-500 is HORIBA's oil content analyzer for rapid measurement of oil concentration in water samples using the solvent extraction — non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) absorption method. A single button press initiates the fully automated measurement cycle, delivering results in approximately 3 minutes without the evaporation step required by the conventional n-hexane method — preserving low-boiling-point oil components such as gasoline that would otherwise be lost. The international model uses solvent S-316, which is not regulated under the Montreal Protocol or PRTR system. Compliant with ASTM D7066.

Add to bag

The OCMA-500 is HORIBA's oil content analyzer for rapid, easy determination of oil concentration in water samples. It uses the solvent extraction — non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) absorption method, measuring infrared absorption in the 3.4–3.5 μm wavelength region characteristic of C-H bonds in oil compounds. A built-in extractor automatically performs the liquid-liquid extraction of the sample with solvent S-316; the measurement then proceeds without requiring an evaporation step, which is a significant advantage over the conventional n-hexane method. Because no evaporation is needed, low-boiling-point oil components such as gasoline are not lost during the process, enabling more complete oil content detection. Measurement is initiated with a single button press and completed in approximately 3 minutes, making the OCMA-500 suitable for routine use by any operator. Solvent S-316 is not regulated under the Montreal Protocol or the PRTR system, providing a safe and cost-effective extraction solvent. The instrument is compliant with ASTM D7066 and displays results directly as oil concentration in mg/L, mg/g, mg/kg, or mg/PC.

Key Features OCMA-500

  • One-touch automated measurement — single button press initiates the full extraction and measurement cycle; approximately 3 minutes per sample.
  • Solvent extraction + NDIR method (3.4–3.5 μm) — direct concentration readout in mg/L, mg/g, mg/kg, or mg/PC without manual weight calculation.
  • No evaporation step — low-boiling-point oil components (gasoline etc.) are preserved and measured, unlike the conventional n-hexane method.
  • Extraction solvent S-316 (8 mL per test) — not regulated under Montreal Protocol or PRTR; built-in extractor; sample:solvent ratio 2:1.
  • Measurement range 0–200 mg/L; repeatability ±0.3 mg/L (0–9.9 mg/L range).
  • 3.5" colour graphic LCD (320×240 dot, backlit); 300-point data memory; USB memory stick output.
  • Self error determination; stabilised measurement value display; built-in clock.
  • Compliant with ASTM D7066-4.
  • Compact and lightweight: 342 × 200 × 313 mm; approx. 7 kg.

Applications

The OCMA-500 is suited to oil content measurement in industrial and municipal wastewater monitoring, factory effluent quality control, component quality control in manufacturing processes, and any application requiring rapid, reliable oil concentration determination in water — including compliance monitoring against oil discharge limits.

Installation and Safety Notes

Install indoors at 0–40 °C (no condensation). Power: 100–240 V AC ±10%, 50/60 Hz; 60–90 VA. Use only HORIBA-designated extraction solvent S-316. Handle solvents in a well-ventilated area in accordance with the solvent Safety Data Sheet. Exclude warming-up, calibration, and rinsing time from the stated ~3-minute measurement time.
