A6141 Ammonium bicarbonate, Merck

A6141 Merck

Ammonium bicarbonate (Ammonium hydrogen carbonate) is a high-purity inorganic salt (ReagentPlus®, ≥99.0%) commonly used as a volatile buffer in proteomics and a variety of biochemical applications.

Add to bag

Ammonium bicarbonate is a versatile reagent used extensively in laboratory and industrial settings. In biochemistry and proteomics, it is a preferred buffer for protein digestion (e.g., trypsin digestion) and peptide mass profiling because it is volatile and can be easily removed by lyophilization. It is also used in the derivatization of histone proteins and the destaining of silver-stained proteins in polyacrylamide gels. Outside of research, it serves as a critical ingredient in the food industry and has applications in enhancing the performance of microbial fuel cells (MFCs) by modifying catalyst layer porosity.

Advantages

  • ReagentPlus® grade ensures high purity (≥99.0%) for sensitive analytical and biochemical methods.
  • Excellent volatility, allowing for easy removal from samples during drying or lyophilization.
  • Highly effective buffering capacity in the physiological pH range (pH 7.0–8.5).
  • Suitable for a wide range of applications from proteomics to energy research and food science.
