Y3252 Yeast Mannitol Agar, Merck

Y3252 Merck

Yeast Mannitol Agar (NutriSelect® Plus) is a specialized culture medium used for the cultivation, isolation, and enumeration of soil microorganisms, particularly symbiotic nitrogen-fixing bacteria such as Rhizobium species.

Add to bag

Yeast Mannitol Agar is designed to support the growth of Rhizobiaceae. The medium's formulation provides essential nutrients: yeast extract serves as a source of amino acids, Vitamin B complex, and growth factors, while also stabilizing the oxidation-reduction potential to levels favorable for Rhizobia. Mannitol acts as the primary fermentable sugar alcohol and energy source. The inclusion of calcium carbonate and magnesium sulfate provides essential cations required for the metabolic processes of nitrogen-fixing organisms. Due to the presence of calcium carbonate, the prepared medium typically appears opalescent with a white precipitate.

Advantages

  • Specifically optimized for the growth of symbiotic nitrogen-fixing organisms like Rhizobium meliloti and Rhizobium leguminosarum.
  • Part of the NutriSelect® Plus product line, ensuring standard quality control (Level 200) for reliable routine microbiology.
  • Balanced mineral content (calcium, magnesium, and phosphates) to support specific soil bacteria requirements.
  • Clear visual differentiation of growth characteristics for soil fertility studies.
