Actinomycete Isolation Agar (NutriSelect Plus) is a specialized culture medium used for the selective isolation and propagation of Actinomycetes from soil and water samples.

Add to bag

Actinomycete Isolation Agar is specifically formulated to support the growth of Actinomycetes while suppressing other microorganisms. It contains sodium caseinate and L-asparagine as nitrogen sources, providing essential amino acids. Sodium propionate acts as a substrate for anaerobic fermentation and helps in inhibiting fungal growth. The inclusion of dipotassium phosphate ensures effective buffering to maintain a stable pH. The medium is supplemented with glycerol, which serves as an additional carbon source, and sulfates that provide essential sulfur and metallic ions for metabolic processes.

Advantages

  • Highly selective for the isolation of Actinomycetes from complex environmental samples like soil and water.
  • Part of the NutriSelect® Plus product line, ensuring standard quality control (Level 200).
  • Effective buffering system with dipotassium phosphate to maintain an alkaline pH (8.1), which favors Actinomycete growth.
  • Compatible with glycerol supplementation to enhance carbon availability for fastidious strains.
