1508 Thioglycollate Fluid Medium EP/USP, Condalab

This medium is formulated to maintain a low oxidation-reduction potential, allowing for the growth of obligate anaerobes without the need for specialized anaerobic jars. The Pancreatic Digest of Casein and Yeast Extract provide nitrogen, vitamins, and minerals. Glucose serves as the energy source. Sodium Thioglycollate and L-Cystine act as reducing agents to deplete oxygen. A small amount of Bacteriological Agar is included to reduce the diffusion of oxygen from the surface into the lower parts of the medium. The redox indicator Resazurin turns pink when oxidized (at the top of the tube) and remains colorless when reduced, providing a visual guide to the anaerobic state of the medium.
