1549 NZCYM Broth, Condalab

1549 Condalab

NZCYM Broth is a highly nutritious liquid medium used for the cultivation of recombinant Escherichia coli and the propagation of bacteriophage lambda. It is one of the most complex variations of the NZ-based media, specifically designed to support rapid bacterial growth and high-titer phage production.

Add to bag

NZCYM Broth (NutriSelect Plus equivalent) is formulated to provide an abundance of amino acids and growth factors. The name reflects its composition: N-Z-Amine (a pancreatic digest of casein), Z-Amine, Casamino acids, Yeast extract, and Magnesium sulfate. The combination of enzymatic digests of casein and acid-hydrolyzed Casamino acids provides a comprehensive profile of peptides and free amino acids. The Yeast extract supplies essential B-complex vitamins, while Magnesium sulfate ($MgSO_4$) is critical for the adsorption of lambda phage to the E. coli host cells. The inclusion of Sodium chloride maintains the osmotic balance necessary for cell viability during infection.

Advantages

  • Optimized for Bacteriophage: Specifically designed to achieve high titers of bacteriophage lambda by providing the necessary ions for viral attachment.
  • Maximum Growth Rates: The rich blend of nitrogen sources (NZ-Amine and Casamino acids) ensures the fastest possible doubling times for E. coli.
  • Enhanced Protein Expression: Ideal for recombinant protein production where high biomass is required.
  • Reliable Performance: Consistent nutrient levels ensure reproducible results in molecular cloning and library screening.
  • Versatile Nutrient Profile: Supports the growth of fastidious recombinant strains that might struggle in leaner media like LB.
