HC Agar Base provides a nutrient-rich environment tailored for the growth of diverse fungal species. It contains Tryptone and Soy Peptone, which offer a balanced source of nitrogen, amino acids, and peptides. Yeast Extract provides essential B-complex vitamins and growth factors. Dextrose is included at a high concentration as a fermentable carbohydrate and primary energy source. To ensure the medium is selective for fungi, it is typically supplemented with Chloramphenicol or other antibiotics to inhibit the growth of accompanying bacterial flora. Magnesium Sulfate and Ammonium Chloride provide essential ions and minerals to stimulate fungal metabolism. The buffering capacity is managed by Dipotassium Phosphate to maintain an optimal pH for yeast and mold development.
