m-Endo Total Coliform Broth (MB000000E) is designed for the microbiological analysis of drinking water and other liquids. Its formulation follows the "Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater." The medium is highly selective, utilizing sodium sulfite and basic fuchsin to inhibit the growth of Gram-positive bacteria. It is also differential: coliform bacteria ferment lactose, producing acetaldehyde which reacts with the sulfite-fuchsin complex to form deep red colonies. Rapid lactose fermenters typically develop a characteristic green metallic sheen, allowing for easy identification and counting. This dehydrated format provides a stable, long-term solution for laboratories performing high-volume water monitoring.
Advantages
- Clear Differentiation: Produces distinct red colonies with a metallic green sheen for easy identification of coliforms.
- Regulatory Compliance: Meets the requirements of Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater.
- High Selectivity: Effectively suppresses Gram-positive background flora using a combination of sodium sulfite, basic fuchsin, and deoxycholate.
- Long Shelf Life: The dehydrated powder remains stable for up to 60 months when stored correctly.
- Versatile Compatibility: Suitable for use with various membrane filtration systems, including Microfil®, Milliflex®, and MicropreSure®.
