Selective and differential dehydrated agar medium for microbiological detection and enumeration of enteric bacteria including Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp. and coliforms in food, beverage, water and environmental testing.
MacConkey-Sorbitol Agar, catalogue No. 88902, is a granular dehydrated medium supplied by MilliporeSigma / Merck under the NutriSelect® Plus product line. According to ISO 16654:2001 methodology, this medium is formulated with agar, bile salts, crystal violet, neutral red, peptone, proteose peptone, sodium chloride and sorbitol to provide a selective environment that suppresses Gram-positive bacteria and differentiates enteric Gram-negative organisms based on their ability to ferment sorbitol. The medium is suitable for routine microbiological analysis and quality control of food, beverage, water and environmental samples.
