The HP-480 is a compact panel-mount industrial pH meter from HORIBA's 48/96 Series, designed for indoor control panel installation in process monitoring and wastewater treatment applications. Fitting the standard 48 × 96 mm DIN cutout, it delivers a full feature set in a small footprint: isolated 4–20 mA transmission output, two relay contact outputs with configurable alarm and ON/OFF control functions, two-point automatic calibration with electrode validation, and automatic temperature compensation. The panel face carries an IP65 waterproof rating, making it suitable for wash-down environments at the panel surface.
The HP-480 is a compact panel-mount industrial pH meter from HORIBA's 48/96 Series, combining a wide range of features and functionality in a standard 48 × 96 mm DIN form factor. It is designed for indoor control panel installation and is well suited to pH monitoring and control in production processes, wastewater treatment, and other industrial applications where a panel-integrated display and control unit is preferred over a field-mount transmitter. The instrument provides an isolated 4–20 mA transmission output, two configurable relay contact outputs, two-point automatic calibration with automatic electrode characteristic validation, and automatic temperature compensation across 0–100 °C. The panel face carries an IP65 waterproof rating for wash-down environments at the panel surface. A broad selection of compatible HORIBA electrodes and cleaning devices — including ultrasonic cleaners that can be retrofitted without water or air supply — supports flexible installation.
Key Features HP-480
- Compact 48 × 96 mm DIN panel-mount format — fits standard control panel cutouts; case depth approx. 105 mm; weight approx. 400 g.
- pH measurement range 0–14, resolution 0.01 pH; temperature display 0–100 °C, 1 °C resolution (selectable).
- Isolated 4–20 mA DC transmission output; max. load resistance 900 Ω; free output range setting; repeatability and linearity ±0.05 pH / ±0.08 mA.
- Two relay contact outputs (SPDT 1c, 240 V AC / 30 V DC, 3 A): selectable upper/lower limit alarm, ON/OFF control, or maintenance mode.
- Two-point automatic calibration with automatic electrode validation (asymmetry potential, sensitivity, response speed); standard solutions pH 2/4/7/9/10; manual calibration also available.
- Automatic temperature compensation 0–100 °C; supports multiple NTC thermistors (350 Ω, 500 Ω, 6.8 kΩ, 10 kΩ at 25 °C) and Pt 1 kΩ; compensation can be disabled.
- Transmission output hold: previous value, optional value, or continuous — selectable per operating mode.
- Self-diagnostics: calibration errors, electrode self-diagnosis, temperature sensor faults, converter errors.
- Panel face IP65 (IEC60529 / JIS C0920); rear case IP20; ABS panel case; PBT terminals; Class II device per IEC61010-1, Pollution Level 2.
- CE marked: EMC EN61326-1, Low Voltage EN61010-1, RoHS EN50581; FCC Part 15.
Applications
The HP-480 is suited to pH monitoring and closed-loop control in industrial production processes, municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, food and beverage manufacturing, pharmaceutical processes, and any application requiring a compact, panel-integrated pH controller with alarm and output functions in an indoor control room or panel enclosure.
Installation and Safety Notes
Install the HP-480 into a standard 48 × 96 mm panel cutout. Power supply: 100–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz, 10 VA max. The panel face is rated IP65; the rear case is IP20 and the terminals IP00 — ensure the rear of the panel is protected from moisture and contamination. Operating temperature −5 to 45 °C; storage −25 to 65 °C; humidity 20–85% RH non-condensing. When retrofitting ultrasonic cleaners, no additional sequence control is required; for other cleaner types, customer-side sequence control is needed.
