Sulfite Reagent Set measures sulfite in boiler water.
Article 2459800 measures sulfite in the range from 0 to 500 mg/L SO₃²⁻ in boiler water. The product uses Iodate-Iodide method (8071). Sulfite Reagent Set can be used for 100 tests. The product may be used for 60mL sample analysis.
Sulfite Reagent Set includes:
- Dissolved Oxygen 3 Reagent Powder Pillows (p/n 98799)
- Potassium Iodide-Iodate Standard Solution (p/n 1400153)
- Starch Indicator Solution (p/n 34932)
Before you start take into account the following:
- It is required to perform analysis instantly after sample collection.
- It is not recommended to preserve the sample for later analysis.
- It is recommended to prevent agitation of the sample.
Procedure for O₂ evaluation
For sulfite determination in the range of 0-500 mg/L SO₃²⁻, it is required to add titrant in the 10mL buret. Measure the sample volume with graduated cylinder or pipette. Add the sample and Dissolved Oxygen 3 Powder Pillow in the 250mL Erlenmeyer flask. Mix the Erlenmeyer flask and pour Starch Indicator Solution. Swirl the Erlenmeyer flask content and pipet titrant from the buret.
Summary of method
Potassium iodide-iodate standard solution acidifies and titrates the sample. The acid releases free iodine that is reduced to colorless iodide by the sulfite. The iodine enters into reaction with the starch indicator to forming blue color.
