MHPC10025 HPC Total Count Sampler, Merck

MHPC10025 Merck

The HPC Total Count Sampler (Millipore®) is a ready-to-use, self-contained dip tester designed for the fast and easy monitoring of heterotrophic bacteria (total count) in water, beverages, and environmental samples.

Add to bag

This sampler is optimized for the recovery of aerobic heterotrophic bacteria, including both non-stressed and "stressed" organisms (those partially damaged by sanitizers or nutritional starvation). It consists of a polyethylene paddle with a 0.45 µm gridded membrane filter and a chamber containing dehydrated m-HPC medium. The m-HPC medium (formerly known as m-Gelman medium) is specifically formulated for high recovery rates of bacteria in diverse water types, including cooling towers, dialysis water, and laboratory-grade water. The red color-coding of the sampler ensures easy identification of the test type.

Advantages

  • Stressed Organism Recovery: m-HPC medium is superior for recovering bacteria that have been weakened by environmental or chemical stress.
  • Ready-to-Use: Eliminates the need for traditional agar preparation, sterilization, and filtration hardware.
  • Simplified Counting: The gridded 0.45 µm membrane provides a clear background for counting glistening, translucent, or pigmented colonies.
  • Broad Application: Ideal for water monitoring in clinical, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food & beverage industries.
  • Integrated System: The chamber acts as an incubation vessel, protecting the sample from external contamination.

Instructions for use

To perform a liquid test, remove the paddle from the chamber and dip it into the sample for about 30 seconds, ensuring the filter is completely submerged. For surface testing, the membrane can be pressed directly against the surface or used in conjunction with a Millipore swab kit (MMSK10025). After sampling, shake off excess liquid, re-insert the paddle into the chamber, and seal it firmly. Incubate the sampler at 25–35 °C for 48–72 hours. After incubation, count the colonies; they typically appear glistening and vary in color from colorless to white, cream, or yellow. Magnification is recommended for accurate enumeration.
