Advanced Wind Monitoring with Digital Precision

The HD53LS.S ultrasonic anemometer represents a modern approach to wind measurement, eliminating the wear and maintenance associated with traditional mechanical cups and vanes. By using ultrasound to calculate wind speed and direction across two axes, it delivers highly accurate and reliable data for critical monitoring applications. The integrated magnetic compass ensures that direction readings are always referenced to true north, even if the unit is moved, simplifying installation and ensuring long-term data consistency.

Designed for Seamless Integration and Networked Systems

This model is engineered for professionals who require digital connectivity. The RS485 MODBUS-RTU output allows the anemometer to be easily integrated into larger SCADA, BMS, or environmental monitoring networks, enabling centralized data collection and control from multiple sensors. Supplied with user-friendly PC software, the device offers extensive configurability, allowing users to set averaging intervals from 1 second to 10 minutes to perfectly match their specific application needs, from gust detection to long-term trend analysis.

Key Advantages & Features

  • Maintenance-Free Operation: No moving parts means no mechanical wear, ensuring long-term reliability and reducing lifetime costs.
  • High Sensitivity at Low Wind Speeds: Ultrasonic technology accurately detects very low wind speeds that are often missed by traditional mechanical anemometers.
  • Integrated Magnetic Compass: Provides automatic north alignment for accurate wind direction measurement without manual referencing during installation.
  • Digital MODBUS-RTU Output: RS485 communication protocol enables easy networking of multiple instruments and integration into industrial control systems.
  • Rugged and Corrosion-Resistant Design: ASA housing with AISI 316 metallic parts and an IP66 rating ensures durability in harsh outdoor and marine environments.

Measures & How to Use

  • Primary Application: Ideal for professional weather stations, environmental compliance monitoring, agricultural weather networks, and building automation systems (HVAC).
  • Mount the unit on a standard Ø 40 mm mast in an open area, away from obstructions that could cause turbulent airflow.
  • Connect the device to a data logger, PLC, or SCADA system using the RS485 MODBUS-RTU protocol via the 19-pole M23 connector.
  • Use the supplied PC software to configure parameters such as averaging intervals and to view real-time data for commissioning and diagnostics.
  • The device calculates and outputs wind speed, direction, and U-V Cartesian components. The gust measurement function is activated and configured via software.
