Reagent Powder Pillows measures salinity in seawater and brackish water by Mercuric Nitrate Method. Also used to determine Chloride in water, wastewater and seawater.
Diphenylcarbazone Reagent Powder Pillows measures salinity in the range from 0 to 100 ppt in seawater and brackish water. Article 96799 is also required for chloride evaluation in water, wastewater and seawater. The product uses Mercuric Nitrate Titration method (10073 - salinity, 8206 - chloride). Reagent Powder Pillows can be used to conduct analysis of 100 tests.
Before starting analysis:
- Collect samples in clean glass or plastic containers.
- Use TitraStir Titration Stand to hold the Digital Titrator and stir the sample.
Procedure for Salinity measurement
Firstly, install the delivery tube into the Mercuric Nitrate Titration Cartridge and attach the required cartridge to the Digital Titrator. Secondly, pour 2.0mL of the water sample to the plastic vial with 3mL syringe. Thirdly, mix 10mL of deionized water and the content of Diphenylcarbazone Reagent Powder Pillow in the vial. Finally, add titrant until the color changes from yellow to light pink and calculate the salinity: Digits x 0.1 = ppt salinity
Summary of method
Mercuric ions in the titrant enter into reaction with chloride in the sample forming mercuric chloride. After all of the chloride is in the form of mercuric chloride, the mercuric ions enter into reaction with diphenylcarbazone indicator forming pink-purple-colored complex that indicates the endpoint of the titration.
Sample preparation
If prompt analysis is not possible, keep the sample for a maximum of 7 days before analysis.
