2651600 Cobalt & Nickel Reagent Set, 0.01-2.00 mg/L Co

Article 2651600 measures cobalt 0.01-2.00 mg/L Co and nickel 0.006-1.000 mg/L Ni in water and wastewater. The product uses PAN method (8078, 8150). Cobalt & Nickel Reagent Set can be used to conduct evaluation of 100 tests. The product is compatible with all Hach spectrophotometers or colorimeters except DR800, DR2000 and DR3000.

Cobalt & Nickel Reagent Set includes:

• EDTA Reagent Powder Pillows (p/n 700599)
• Phthalate-Phosphate Reagent Powder Pillows (p/n 2615199)
• PAN Indicator Solution (p/n 2150232)

Before you start take into account the following:

• Collect the sample in glass or plastic bottle cleaned with 6 N (1:1) hydrochloric acid and rinsed with deionized water.
• It is recommended to digest the sample with heat and acid to ensure that all forms of the metal are measured.
• It is required to adjust the pH to 3-8 using 5.0 N sodium hydroxide standard solution before sample analysis.

Procedure for Co evaluation

Run program 110 Cobalt to evaluate cobalt in the range between 0.01 and 2.00 mg/L Co. Fill blank cell with 10 mL of deionized water. Add 10 mL sample in another cell to prepare the sample cell. Pour the content of one Phthalate-Phosphate Reagent Powder Pillow to each cell and shake to dissolve the reagent. After that add 0.5 mL PAN Indicator Solution to each cell and invert a few times. After 3 minutes, pour EDTA Reagent Powder Pillow to blank cell and sample cell. Then close, stir and thoroughly clean each cell. Install the blank cell in the instrument and select ZERO. Insert the pretreated sample cell into the cell holder and press READ. See manual for additional information regarding nickel determination procedure.

Summary of method

Cobalt enters into reaction with 1-(2-Pyridylazo)-2-Naphthol indicator that forms complexes with majority of metals. After color development, EDTA is added to destroy all metal-PAN complexes except nickel and cobalt that can be measured with the same sample preparation using spectrophotometer or colorimeter.
