2544800 FerroMo Iron Reagent Set, 0.01-1.80mg/L Fe

FerroMo Iron Reagent Set measures total iron in the range of 0.01-1.80mg/L Fe for cooling water. Article 2544800 uses FerroMo method (8365). Each package of the product can be used to conduct 100 tests. The product can be evaluated using all Hach spectrophotometers except DR820 and PC II.

Before starting analysis:

• It is required to collect the sample in glass or plastic containers cleaned with 6 N (1:1) hydrochloric acid and rinsed with deionized water.
• It is necessary to adjust the pH to 3-5 with 5 N sodium hydroxide solution before analysis.
• It is recommended to measure the reagent blank value for each new reagent lot.

Procedure for Fe determination 

Start program 275 Iron, FerroMo. Mix 50 mL sample and FerroMo Iron Reagent 1 Powder Pillow in the mixing cylinder to prepare the sample. Close the mixing cylinder and invert it a few times. Transfer the pretreated sample into the 25mL mixing cylinder. Fill another sample cell with 10mL of the pretreated sample to prepare the blank. Add FerroMo Iron Reagent 2 Powder Pillow into the 25mL mixing cylinder. Install the stopper on the mixing cylinder and invert it several times. After 3 minutes, add 10mL of the prepaired sample into sample cell. Clean and insert the blank cell in the instrument. Install the pretreated sample cell in the cell holder and analyze testing results.

Summary of method

FerroMo Iron Reagent 1 contains reducing agent combined with masking agent that removes interference from high levels of molybdate. The reducing agent converts precipitated or suspended iron to the ferrous state. FerroMo Iron Reagent 2 contains the indicator combined with a buffering agent. The indicator enters into reaction with ferrous iron in the sample, buffered between pH 3 and 5 that results in blue-purple color.

Sample preparation

Adjust the sample pH to less than 2 with concentrated hydrochloric acid to conserve the collected sample. Store the preserved sample at room temperature for up to 6 months.
