Potassium Reagent Set measures potassium in water, wastewater, seawater, oil and gas field waters by the Tetraphenylborate method.
Article 2459100 measures potassium 0.1 and 7.0 mg/L K in water, wastewater and seawater. The product also measures potassium in the range from 1.0 to 70 mg/L K and in the range between 1.0 and 700 mg/L K in oil and gas field waters. Potassium Reagent Set uses Tetraphenylborate method (8049). The product can be used to conduct analysis of 100 tests. Article 2459100 can be evaluated using all Hach spectrophotometers or colorimeters except DR800 and PC II. The product can be used for 25mL sample analysis.
Potassium Reagent Set includes:
- Potassium 1 Reagent Powder Pillows (p/n 1432198)
- Potassium 2 Reagent Solution Pillows (p/n 1432298)
- Potassium 3 Reagent Powder Pillows (p/n 1432399)
Before you start take into account the following:
- It is required to collect samples in glass or plastic containers cleaned with 6 N (1:1) hydrochloric acid and rinsed with deionized water.
- It is recommended to filter the turbid sample with filter paper and funnel.
- It is necessary to adjust the pH to 4-5 with 5 N sodium hydroxide solution.
- It is recommended to correct testing results for the dilution caused by the volume additions.
Procedure for potassium (K) measurement
Run program 905 Potassium to start the analysis of the water, wastewater or seawater sample. Add the sample, Potassium 1 Reagent Pillow and Potassium 2 Reagent Pillow to the mixing cylinder. Install the stopper and invert the content of the mixing cylinder. Pour the content of Potassium 3 Reagent Pillow, put the stopper and shake the mixing cylinder. After 3 minutes, transfer the prepared solution in the sample cell and prepare the blank (see manual for detailed information regarding blank preparation). After that clean and insert the blank cell in the instrument. Remove the blank and evaluate the sample. The measurement wavelength is 650 nm for
spectrophotometers or 610 nm for colorimeters.
See the manual for additional information regarding analysis of the oil or gas field water sample.
Summary of method
Potassium enters into reaction with sodium tetraphenylborate forming potassium tetraphenylborate. The amount of turbidity is proportional to the potassium concentration.
Sample preparation
Adjust the sample pH<2 using concentrated nitric acid and preserve the sample at room temperature.
