Low Range Total Iron Reagent Set measures total iron in water, wastewater and seawater.
Article 2449200 measures total iron 10-100 mg/L Fe in water, wastewater and seawater. The product uses TitraVer Titration method (8214). The product can be used to perform analysis of 100 samples.
Low Range Total Iron Reagent Set includes:
- Citrate Buffer Powder Pillows (p/n 2081599)
- Sodium Periodate Reagent Powder Pillows (p/n 98499)
- Sulfosalicylic Acid Powder Pillows (p/n 2081669)
- TitraVer Standard Solution Titration Cartridge (p/n 2081701)
Before you start take into account the following:
- It is required to collect the water, wastewater and seawater sample with clean glass or plastic containers.
- It is necessary to dilute the sample with deionized water if the sample is less than 50mL.
- It is recommended to perform accuracy check using standard additions method.
Procedure for Fe determination
Install delivery tube into the digital titration cartridge and attach the cartridge to the Digital Titrator. Then determine the sample volume using graduated cylinder or pipet. Pour the water, wastewater and seawater sample into 125mL Erlenmeyer flask. Add Citrate Buffer Powder Pillow and swirl the content of the 125mL Erlenmeyer flask. After that pour Sodium Periodate Powder Pillow and swirl to mix. Add the content of Sulfosalicylic Acid Powder Pillow and swirl the 125mL Erlenmeyer flask. Add titrant until the color changes from red to yellow and calculate the concentration.
Summary of method
Sodium periodate oxidizes ferrous iron Fe2+ to ferric ion Fe3+ that develops red complex with sulfosalicylic acid. Titration with EDTA removes the red-colored complex. Citric acid buffers the solution and makes the ferric ion stable in the solution.
