Manganese Reagent Set measures soluble manganese in water and wastewater.
Manganese Reagent Set measures manganese 0.1-20.0 mg/L Mn in water and wastewater. The product uses Periodate Oxidation method (8034). Article 2430000 can be used for 100 tests. The product may be evaluated using all Hach spectrophotometers except DR2000 and DR3000. Each Powder Pillow can be used for 10mL sample measurement.
Manganese Reagent Set includes:
Before starting analysis:
- It is requited to collect the sample with acid-washed plastic containers.
- It is not recommended to transport or store the sample using glass vessels.
Procedure for Mn determination
Run program 295 Manganese, HR. Add 10mL of sample and the content of Citrate Buffer Powder Pillow to prepare the sample. Install the stopper and mix the content of the sample cell. Pour Sodium Periodate Powder Pillow, put the stopper and invert the sample cell a few times. Start 2 minute reaction time and add 10mL of sample in the another cell to prepare the blank. After that put the prepared blank in the instrument and push ZERO. Remove the blank from the cell holder, insert the sample cell and press READ. See manual for detailed information regarding sample evaluation with colorimeter.
Summary of method
After buffering the sample with citrate, manganese oxidizes to the purple permanganate state by sodium periodate. The purple color is directly proportional to the manganese concentration and must be evaluated with spectrophotometer at 525nm wavelength or colorimeter at 520nm wavelength.
Sample preparation
It is recommended to adjust the sample pH with concentrated nitric acid to pH<2 and store at room temperature for long-term sample conservation (up to 6 months).
