2429300 Zinc Reagent Set, 0.01-3.00mg/L Zn

2429300 Hach

Zinc Reagent Set measures zinc in water and wastewater.

Add to bag

Zinc Reagent Set measures zinc 0.01-3.00mg/L Zn in water and wastewater. Article 2429300 uses Zincon method (8009). The product can be used to perform analysis of 100 tests. Zinc Reagent Set can be evaluated using all Hach spectrophotometers except DR2000 and DR3000. Article 2429300 may be used for 20mL sample evaluation.

Zinc Reagent Set includes:

Before starting analysis:

  • It is recommended to use glass-stoppered mixing cylinders.
  • It is not recommended to use dropper with rubber bulbs.
  • It is required to keep cyanide solutions at pH>11 to prevent exposure to hydrogen cyanide gas.

Procedure for Zn measurement

Start program 780 Zinc to evaluate zinc in the range of 0.01-3.00mg/L. Mix 20mL sample and ZincoVer 5 Reagent Powder Pillow in the 25mL graduated mixing cylinder. The color of the reacted sample is required to be orange. It is recommended to conduct the sample dilution and repeat the procedure if the sample is brown or blue. Add 10mL of the solution in the cell to prepare the blank. Pipet 0.5mL of Cyclohexanone 3 Reagent Solution in the mixing cylinder and shake the content of the mixing cylinder for 30 seconds. Transfer the pretreated sample from the mixing cylinder into another cell. Insert the blank cell in the cell holder and press ZERO. Install the sample cell in the instrument and select READ. The measurement wavelength for spectrophotometers is 620 nm. The required wavelength for colorimeters is 610 nm.

Summary of method

Zinc and other metals are complexed with cyanide. Adding cyclohexanone causes selective zinc release that enters into reaction with 2-carboxy-2'-hydroxy-5'- sulfoformazyl benzene indicator forming blue-colored species. The blue color is masked by the brown color from the excess indicator. The intensity of the blue color is proportional to the zinc concentration in the sample.
