Chloride Reagent Set measures chloride in water, wastewater and seawater.
Chloride Reagent Set measures chloride 10-8000 mg/L Cl⁻ in water, wastewater and seawater. The product uses Mercuric Nitrate Titration method (8206). Article 2272600 can be used to analyze up to 100 tests.
Chloride Reagent Set includes:
- Diphenylcarbazone Indicator Powder Pillows (p/n 83699)
- Mercuric Nitrate Titration Cartridge, 0.2256 N (p/n 1439301)
- Mercuric Nitrate Titration Cartridge, 2.256 N (p/n 92101)
Before starting analysis:
- It is necessary to collect the sample in clean glass or plastic bottles.
- It is recommended to use TitraStir Titration Stand to hold the Digital Titrator and stir the sample.
- It is required to store the sample for no more than 7 days.
Procedure for Cl⁻ determination
Select sample volume and titration cartridge (see manual for detailed information regarding sample volumes and digit multipliers). Insert delivery tube into the digital titration cartridge and attach the cartridge to the Digital Titrator. Turn the delivery knob to eject air and several drops of titrant. Then reset the counter to zero and clean the tip of the Digital Titrator. Pour the required amount of sample followed by adding the content of Diphenylcarbazone Indicator Powder Pillow in the 250mL Erlenmeyer flask and swirl to mix. After that add titrant until the color changes from yellow to light pink and calculate the concentration.
Summary of method
Mercuric ions enter into reaction with chloride forming mercuric chloride. After all of the chloride is in the form of mercuric chloride, the mercuric ions enter into reaction with diphenylcarbazone indicator forming pink-purple complex that shows the endpoint of the titration.
