2113301 Phosphonate Test Kit without UV Lamp and Power Supply, Model PN-10

2113301 Hach

For phosphonate analysis in water samples from boilers and cooling towers by Color Disc method.

Add to bag

Phosphonate Test Set is used for phosphonate determination in the range of 0 - 100 mg/L PO₄³- in water samples from boilers and cooling towers. The set uses Color Disc/ PhosVer 3 method. Model PN-10 may be used to measure up to 100 samples. The smallest increment is 1 mg/L PO₄³-. Phosphonate Test Kit provides testing results in less than 15 minutes.

Phosphonate Test Set contains:

Procedure for PO₄³- measurement

Before you start take into account the following:

  • It is not recommended to use the detergent containing phosphate to clean the labware.
  • It is required to wait 4 minutes before starting analysis if the sample temperature is less than 15 °C (59 °F).
  • It is necessary to digest the sample for longer time if the sample contains high levels of organic compounds or if the lamp has low power.
  • It is recommended to dilute the sample using tap water if deionized water is not available.

Test procedure

  1. Select the sample volume (see the instructions for detailed information regarding sample volumes and multipliers).
  2. Use graduated cylinder to measure the sample if the volume of the sample is less than 50 mL.
  3. Add the sample to the volumetric flask, dilute to the mark with deionized water, install the stopper and invert to mix.
  4. Mix the sample and Potassium Persulfate Powder Pillow in the bottle, insert in the bottle holder and set the bottle holder in the storage case.
  5. Put on the UV protection goggles, place the UV lamp in the bottle and switch on the UV lamp. After 10-15 minutes, turn off the UV lamp.
  6. Fill two tubes to the 5 mL line with the digested sample.
  7. Place the first tube into the left opening of the color comparator box.
  8. Pour the content of PhosVer 3 Phosphate Reagent Powder Pillow to the second tube and swirl to mix. The blue color develops as the result of the reaction.
  9. After 2 minutes, install the second tube into the color comparator box. Rotate the color disc to find the matching color.
  10. Repeat steps 6 to 9 with the undigested sample. Subtract the undigested value from the digested value.
  11. Multiply the testing results by the multiplier to receive the testing results as mg/L PO₄ (see manual).
  12. Convert the testing results to phosphonate as mg/L PO₄³- (see the instructions for detailed information regarding phosphonate conversion).
