193701 Tannin/Lignin Test Kit, Model TA-3

193701 Hach

Required for tannin and lignin analysis in water samples.

Add to bag

Tannin/Lignin Test Kit measures tannin and lignin in the range of 0 - 15 mg/L (medium) and 0 - 150 mg/L (high) in various water samples. Model TA-3 uses Color Disc/Tyrosine method. Tannin/Lignin Test Set can be used for 100 tests. The smallest increments are 0.5 and 5. Tannin and lignin are measured together and reported as mg/L tannic acid.

Tannin/Lignin Test Kit includes:

  • TanninVer™ 3 Reagent (p/n 256032)
  • Sodium Carbonate Solution (p/n 67532)
  • Deionized Water (p/n 27242)
  • Tannin-Lignin Color Disc, 0-15 mg/L and 0-150 mg/L (p/n 9263200)
  • Color Comparator Box (p/n 173200)
  • 18 mm Glass Viewing Tubes (p/n 173006)
  • Stoppers for 18-mm Glass Tubes and AccuVac Ampuls (p/n 173106)
  • Plastic Dropper (p/n 608000)
  • ACS Formaldehyde (p/n 205932)
  • 29 mL Square Bottle without cap (p/n 43906)
  • Pleated Filter Paper, 2-3 micron, 12.5 cm (p/n 189457)
  • 65 mm Poly Funnel (p/n 108367)
  • Instruction sheet

Procedure for Tannin/Lignin analysis

Before starting analysis:

  • It is recommended to use sunlight or lamp as the source of light to find the color match with the color comparator box.
  • It is required to use the value in the middle of the two segments if colors between two segments are matching.
  • It is necessary to filter samples containing turbidity (see the instruction sheet).

Testing procedure (1–15 mg/L as Tannic Acid)

If your sample is turbid, filter it according to the instructions. Then follow the steps below.

Fill two tubes to the 5 mL line with sample. Place the first tube into the left opening of the color comparator box. Pipet 1 drop of TanniVer 3 Reagent to the second tube and swirl the content of the tube. Add 1 mL of Sodium Carbonate Solution to the second tube using the pipette and swirl to mix. Wait 25 minutes till the blue color appears as the result of the reaction. Insert the second tube into the color comparator box. Set the color comparator box in front of the light, rotate the color disc to match the color and read the testing results in mg/L in the scale window.

Refer to the manual for 1 - 150 mg/L Tannin-Lignin determination procedure.

Note: Ferrous iron and aromatic hydroxy compounds cause a positive interference. To eliminate sulfite interference, add 4 drops of formaldehyde to the sample before starting the test.
