Article 1206499 measures barium 2-100mg/L Ba in water, wastewater, seawater, oil and gas-field water. The product uses Turbidimetric method (8014). Each package contains 100 Powder Pillows. BariVer 4 Barium Reagent Powder Pillows is compatible with all Hach instruments except PC II.

Before starting analysis:

  • It is recommended to collect the sample with clean glass or plastic bottles.
  • Filter sample turbidity using filter paper and funnel.
  • Adjust the pH to 5 with 5 N sodium hydroxide solution.

Procedure for Ba measurement

Run program 20 Barium to evaluate barium in the range from 2 to 100mg/L Ba. Swirl 10 mL of sample and BariVer 4 Barium Reagent Powder Pillow content in the cell to prepare the sample. Add 10 mL of sample in the another cell. After 5 minutes, clean the blank cell and insert in the instrument. Remove the blank, insert the pretreated sample cell and analyze testing results. The measurement wavelength for spectrophotometers is 450 nm. The required wavelength for colorimeters is 420 nm.

Summary of method

Barium Reagent Powder combines with barium to make barium sulfate precipitate that is held in suspension by protective colloid. The amount of precipitate is proportional to the barium concentration and should be evaluated using spectrophotometer.

Sample preparation

It is recommended to protect BariVer 4 Barium Reagent Powder Pillows from moisture. Article 1206499 storage temperature must be between 10 °C and 30 °C.
