1345 Listeria Chromogenic Agar Base according to Ottaviani and Agosti (ALOA) ISO, Condalab

1345 Condalab

Listeria Chromogenic Agar Base (ALOA) ISO is a dehydrated selective and differential medium used for detection and enumeration of Listeria monocytogenes and other Listeria spp. in food and environmental samples. After supplementation, the medium allows clear differentiation of L. monocytogenes through characteristic blue-green colonies with opaque halos, supporting reliable presumptive identification in food safety laboratories.

Listeria Chromogenic Agar Base according to Ottaviani and Agosti (ALOA) ISO, catalogue number 1345, is a dehydrated selective and differential culture medium intended for the detection and enumeration of Listeria monocytogenes and other Listeria species in food and environmental samples.

The medium is based on chromogenic substrates that detect β-glucosidase activity common to Listeria spp., producing blue-green colonies. Listeria monocytogenes additionally exhibits phosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase C activity, resulting in an opaque halo around colonies. After appropriate supplementation, the medium provides high selectivity and clear visual differentiation.

Advantages

  • Selective and chromogenic medium enabling rapid presumptive identification of Listeria spp.
  • Clear differentiation of Listeria monocytogenes by formation of opaque halos.
  • Complies with ISO 11290 requirements for food microbiology.
  • Suitable for routine food safety and quality-control laboratories.
