114562 Potassium Cell Test Spectroquant, Merck

1.14562 Merck

The Spectroquant® Potassium Cell Test is a rapid, ready-to-use photometric test designed for the accurate quantification of potassium content in water and soil samples. It is widely used in environmental monitoring, drinking water analysis, and industrial quality control.

Add to bag

The Potassium Cell Test (1.14562) utilizes the turbidimetric method. In an alkaline solution, potassium ions react with Kalignost® (sodium tetraphenylborate) to form a slightly soluble precipitate. The resulting turbidity is proportional to the concentration of potassium and is measured photometrically. As part of the Spectroquant® system, these cells are equipped with a unique Live ID (2D barcode), which automatically selects the correct method on Spectroquant® Prove, Nova, and Move photometers, ensuring high reliability and ease of use.

Advantages

  • Ready-to-use: Pre-filled 16 mm round cells minimize preparation time and reduce handling errors.
  • High precision: Measuring range of 5.0 – 50.0 mg/L K ensures accurate results for low-to-medium concentrations.
  • Automated recognition: Live ID provides automatic method detection, lot information, and calibration updates.
  • Versatile application: Suitable for drinking water, ground water, surface water, mineral water, and waste water.
  • Compliance: Calibrated against NIST-traceable standards for audit-ready laboratory procedures.

Instructions for use

Ensure the sample pH is between 3 and 12 (adjust with sodium hydroxide or sulfuric acid if necessary). Pipette 2.0 mL of the pretreated sample into a reaction cell and mix. The pH in the cell must be between 10.0 and 11.5. Add 6 drops of Reagent K-1K and mix, then add one level microspoon of Reagent K-2K and shake to dissolve. Allow the reaction to proceed for exactly 5 minutes. Measure the sample in the photometer immediately after the reaction time. Note: The turbidity is stable for only a short duration; results may increase by 5-7% per minute if measurement is delayed.
